Walk4Hearing is an annual five-kilometer (three-mile) walkathon fundraiser. Each attendee is encouraged to wear a colorful t-shirt or cap honoring an individual they know with hearing loss.
Our annual Walk4Hearing benefits the Hearing Loss Association of America in several ways. The proceeds benefit the national office and the Houston chapter to support issues related to hearing loss and education. These funds are for advocacy and outreach, as well as educating people, their friends, and their family about hearing loss and its issues. Our meeting expenses include CART (Communications Access Real Time aka captioning) services for closed-captioning, and induction loop equipment for attendees with the telecoil option on their hearing devices.
The Walk4Hearing is part of an effort to increase awareness of services and support available to members of the public with hearing loss. The Walk4Hearing encourages public interest and enables the public to learn how to support their friends and family with hearing loss. We look forward to increased participation each year through good publicity and civic awareness.
Walkers are welcome to walk just a few steps along the path and join the supporters to cheer other walkers. This is an occasion to share outdoors with our friends and families rather than an athletic competition.
Teams are a great way for a group of people to honor friends or family members they know with hearing loss.
Donors are welcome to donate any amount that they are comfortable with on behalf of the walker or team they are sponsoring.
Sponsors are welcome to donate any of the walk sponsorship amounts to show their participation and support for Houston's Walk4Hearing.
